Helping Mothers Without Borders

By cathydanz

I have a dear friend in her mid 70s who will be making her second arduous trip to Zambia to offer love and her teaching skills to the AIDS orphans there.    She needs our support dollars to make the trip possible.   Zambia has nearly one million orphaned children due to AIDS.  Please read her story.

Jo LaFontaine VanBuskirk's Story of Zambia

As some of you know, I will once again be going to Africa this July with Mothers Without Borders to work with AIDS orphans in Lusaka, Zambia.

I will be working in the villages, community schools and hospitals and drop in centers for street kids, as well as the Mothers Without Borders orphanage. I will have an opportunity to teach some of these children in the MWB school as well as the community schools.  We tutor the children in reading, English, math, play games and offer comfort and hope.

I know from my previous trip the great need for just loving hearts to embrace all of these kids.  Mothers Without Borders helps as many children in the villages and slums as is possible. The stories of many are just horrific, many kids live on the streets and their days are spent scavenging for food in trash cans and alleyways, or begging for handouts.  There are many child headed households where a young sibling is left caring for the younger children of the family.

I am very excited to have this opportunity to go back to Zambia and I am writing to ask for your help.  The total cost for the trip is about $5000.  This cost includes flights, lodging, and 3 meals a day for myself, as well as funding scholarships so the children can go to school.  It provides foot-powered sewing machines to the women in the MWB sewing group, and purchases bricks to build the school and a children’s hospice sanctuary at the MWB Children’s village.

If you are interested in helping with this project I will appreciate any donation that you are able to make. Your donation is tax deductible.  100% of the money you donate goes directly to volunteer efforts and program supplies.
